The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that 22 veterans a day die by suicide. Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, Inc. is committed to changing that. Through the Community Mutt Strut, corporate partners, foundations, and members of the community join together to fund the training of medical service dogs for veterans struggling with PTS (post-traumatic stress), traumatic brain injury, and other combat-related injuries.
WHAT: Virtual Fundraiser
WHEN: September 8th - 12th
WHERE: On the Mutt Strut Virtual Platform
WHAT: Community Mutt Strut
The 2020 Community Mutt Strut is sponsored by PNC to support our military veterans. The event will be held virtually this year, September 8 through 12, and the proceeds will continue to support Guardian Angels so our veterans can receive these life-saving dogs at no expense. The challenges we face may be a little different this year, but the fact remains that a vast majority of those in need are unable to afford the $25,000 cost for one of these highly trained service dogs. In our communities, we know the need is greater than ever, with hundreds of veterans currently on the waiting list to be paired with a dog. Due to coronavirus travel and safety restrictions that have been put in place this year, the pairing has slowed significantly, resulting in a backlog of dogs at the Guardian Angels training facility in Florida. Each of those dogs corresponds with a veteran who is eager to begin a new life.
